Meet Dr. Jonathan Nielson

Dr. Nielson first discovered his passion for pediatric emergency medicine as a pre-med student working in the ER alongside his sister, a pediatric emergency nurse. He was inspired by the way physicians brought comfort and clarity to children and their families during some of their most stressful moments. Drawn to the variety, fast pace, and teamwork of emergency medicine, he knew he wanted to be part of a specialty where every day offered a chance to make a meaningful difference.

With more than a decade of experience, Dr. Nielson continues to be motivated by the resilience and honesty children bring into the emergency department. He is committed to providing calm, thoughtful care — helping families feel supported, informed and reassured from the moment they arrive.

Outside of work, Dr. Nielson enjoys staying active in his church and keeping up with his five energetic sons through school events and extracurricular activities. He is grateful for the support of his wife, whose partnership makes their full and lively life possible. For Dr. Nielson, caring for children at Cook Children's is a great privilege.
